LAHORE, 19 MARCH 2025—The government of Punjab has made major improvements to its free WiFi services, adding faster speeds and wider coverage to users throughout the province. This update is consistent with Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision of a digitized Punjab.

Short Outlines Of Free Wifi Services

•   Service Wi-Fi 6 Upgradation: The newest version WiFi 6 is now being used, enabling better and faster client services.

•   Increase the Number of Hotspots: Now the free WiFi hotspots in Lahore are increased from 200 to 230 making it easier for the citizens and tourists to gain access.

Upgradation at the Provincial Level

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has also extended free WiFi services to 300 new locations spread over 11 districts which Product Districts: Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Attock. New Areas: Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree have been added where free public Wi-Fi can be accessed at important places.

The free WiFi has recorded the following since the start.

•        Statistical Users i.e. over 17790000 users have utilized the service.

•        Broadband Consumption: The total amount of data consumed was 438 terabytes indicating that the service is dependently relied on by the public for daily activities.

Usage Guidelines of Free Wifi

The PSCA states that emergency services and critical operations should primarily utilize the free WiFi network. Essential application services require optimal bandwidth so that video streaming entertainment and other similar activities will not be used on the free Wi-Fi network.

Future Plans

The government intends to enlarge the existing free WiFi network across Punjab to reach every single resident throughout the province. The authorities are advancing this strategy within their broader order to enhance digital accessibility and technological development across the region.

The free Wi-Fi service development signifies Punjab’s dedication to using technology for public service while promoting connectivity and the digital needs of its population.
