Strong Earthquake Shakes Northern Pakistan, Panic Spreads Across Cities

April 19, 2025—Islamabad: At 11:47 AM on Saturday, a 5.9-magnitude earthquake shook the northern part of Pakistan, leading to vibrations in the major cities, including Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Rawalpindi. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake was 94 kilometers underground and had an epicenter near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.

Latest Updates on the Earthquake in Northern Areas

Residents in affected areas evacuated buildings as earthquakes were felt in over 20 cities across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. The residents of cities such as Chitral, Swat, Mardan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, and Muzaffarabad faced the madness of the quake, increasing the number of prayers and still leaving for open spaces.

So far, no reports have arrived about the loss of human lives, and no major property damage has been reported, although the whole zone was in trouble. The local authorities, the provincial disaster management authority, and the police have prepared themselves and made the necessary arrangements in case there are any possible aftershocks.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority in Punjab is on high alert for the disaster and is monitoring the situation through the assessment of buildings, and advice has been given to the citizens for them to be safe from any accidental incidents. The people have, as yet, thankfully, experienced no incidents of loss or significant property damage despite the vibration of the place.

The earthquake is a reminder of being the third one in the region this week, which indicates how much Pakistan is at risk because of its position at the joining together of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. The public is encouraged to follow preventive measures for safety, while the concerned agencies are trying to evaluate the situation.
