Punjab to Launch ‘Air Punjab’ Airline and Pakistan’s First Bullet Train, Announces Azma Bokhari

Lahore, April 28, 2025, The Punjab government made two major transportation-related announcements, such as the launch of a new ‘Air Punjab’ airline establishment alongside Pakistan’s first bullet train service for the ease of people.

Provincial Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced these new programs through a press conference, where she revealed ‘Air Punjab’ would start its operations with four leased aircraft that would initially focus on domestic travel routes. The airline plans to initiate international operations during the upcoming year after gaining all required regulatory clearances. Punjab becomes the initial province in Pakistan to begin operating its airline to strengthen regional connectivity while solving transportation issues that affect overseas Pakistanis using existing companies.

The government is establishing a high-speed bullet train that will operate between Rawalpindi and Lahore. The new service will cut travel duration between Lahore and Rawalpindi to about 2 hours and 20 minutes while creating superior journey times for passengers. The local authorities plan to develop additional high-speed rail networks, which will enhance the modernization of provincial transport infrastructure.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, multiple development initiatives have been launched through an agenda that also includes 600 Electric buses to decrease pollution and improve transportation in cities.

Bokhari stated that these transportation projects of Air Punjab have been developed to establish safe, modern, and efficient systems that match Punjab’s development plans for sustainable progress and economic development.

The implementation of feasibility studies and technical assessments is already in progress, and international experts participate in consultations to fulfill global standards. Bokhari stated that government officials remain committed to operational transparency and efficiency when implementing these massive projects because they want to establish business prospects and job opportunities and generate more tourism activities throughout Punjab. The director provided public assurance that these development projects would serve as indicators that Pakistan is prepared to adopt modern transportation systems alongside new infrastructure.
