Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that a high-level committee will be formed to look into the issue of extra bills for consumers who use 201 units, so they can get relief.
According to details, members of the federal cabinet raised the matter in front of the Prime Minister, telling him about the unfair situation faced by electricity consumers. They explained that it is wrong to make consumers pay an extra Rs 5,000 every month for the next six months just because they used one unit more than the 200-unit limit.
Sources said cabinet members also expressed concerns about the policies of NEPRA and the Ministry of Energy. They argued that pushing consumers into the “non-protected” category just because they cross 200 units is not fair.
Taking the matter seriously, the Prime Minister announced the formation of a high-level committee. This committee will review the issue and present suggestions to the cabinet so that the 200-unit problem can be solved quickly.
According to sources, the 201-unit slab was intentionally introduced by NEPRA and the Ministry of Power.
It is worth mentioning that in a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Energy, the big difference between bills for 200 units and 201 units was discussed. The question was raised: why is the bill for 200 units around Rs 5,000, but for 201 units it jumps to Rs 15,000?
