Good News for Pakistan’s Economy Big Progress in Oil Deal with the US

Islamabad (August 1, 2025): There has been major progress in a deal between Pakistan and the United States to import crude oil. For the first time in history, Pakistan will import American crude oil.

According to details, Pakistan’s refinery company Cnergyico has decided to directly buy crude oil from the US. The company plans to import around 1 million barrels of American crude oil.

Sources say that the first shipment of American oil is expected to arrive in October 2025. The deal has been made through Vitol Trading, which is the world’s largest oil trading company.

The sources also said that the quality (grade) of American crude oil is similar to Saudi oil. This oil agreement with the US was finalized after a partial trade agreement was reached between both countries.

On the other hand, Usama Qureshi, the Vice Chairman of Cnergyico, confirmed this progress during an interview with Reuters. He said that this is the first time in Pakistan’s history that crude oil is being imported from the United States. The company announced it will buy one million barrels of oil from Vitol, a global energy giant, in October.

According to Usama Qureshi, after a statement by Donald Trump, Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Petroleum encouraged local refineries to start importing crude oil from the United States.

USA Imposes 19% Tariff on Pakistani Exports
It is important to note that this agreement came after months of discussions. The talks began in April, when former US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 29% tax on Pakistani exports.

Now, the United States has agreed to reduce the tariff on Pakistani goods by 10%. This means Pakistani products will now face 19% tax instead of 29%. Meanwhile, India is taxed at 25%, and Israel and Japan both face 15% US tariffs.
