People in Pakistan have received some good news the government has approved a huge subsidy to promote electric vehicles across the country.
According to details, a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee was held in Islamabad, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. In this meeting, a subsidy of 9 billion rupees was approved to boost the use of electric vehicles in Pakistan. The plan includes converting 116,000 motorcycles and 3,170 rickshaws to electric power.
The committee also gave initial approval for a 2 billion rupee bailout package for Quaid-e-Azam University. The goal is to make the university financially independent.
In another decision, 30 billion rupees were approved as a subsidy for telegraphic transfers. This amount will be used under a remittance promotion scheme to encourage overseas Pakistanis to send money through official channels.
The Punjab government has also announced a program to reduce environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Under this scheme, any citizen who switches from a petrol motorcycle to an electric bike will receive 100,000 rupees in cash.
This announcement was made recently by Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb during a ceremony in Lahore. She said that those who adopt electric bikes instead of petrol ones will get the cash reward. She also mentioned that people who plant trees will receive financial rewards under the Environment Department’s Green Card Program.

Launch Date:
The official launch is expected to be announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on 14 August, during the Independence Day celebrations.
This step shows the government’s strong commitment to building a sustainable future and reducing dependence on fuel-based transport.
Subsidy and Budget Allocation:
In the current budget, the government has allocated 9 billion rupees to support the electric bike scheme. Each electric bike will get a subsidy of 65,000 rupees, making it affordable for the public.
The remaining amount will be paid through interest-free bank loans, which will reduce the financial burden on buyers.
Installments and Registration Process:
Registration for the scheme will be done online to ensure transparency and easy access for everyone. If the number of applicants is higher than the available quota, a balloting process will decide who gets the benefit.
Future Goals:
The government’s aim is that by 2030, there will be at least 2 million electric bikes on the roads. Other targets include 53,950 electric rickshaws, 99,155 electric cars, 2,238 buses, and 2,996 trucks.
