Islamabad: The Petroleum Division has decided to lift the ban on new household gas connections, according to sources.
As reported by ARY News, the summary to end the restriction on new gas connections has been officially sent.
The decision has been made to give new gas connections using imported gas for domestic users.
Sources say that new customers will receive imported gas connections, but these will be much more expensive than the usual natural gas connections.
The fee for an imported gas connection will be up to Rs. 41,000, and once approved by the federal cabinet, the process of giving new connections will begin.
Earlier this month, sources linked to the Petroleum Division said that the government was thinking about removing the ban on new gas connections.
The Petroleum Division was asked to prepare for this change and to estimate the gas needs of new household and commercial users.
Due to reduced supply to all sectors, some extra gas is now available in the system. Also, gas losses in the Sui gas companies have been largely controlled, and because of this, five LNG cargoes have been delayed.
It’s important to remember that in 2019, the federal government had banned new gas connections due to gas shortages in the country.
