Lahore, Apr 7, 2025— LESCO (Lahore Electric Supply Company) has started the installation of scanning meters and aerial bundled cables in the theft-prone or high-theft areas, namely Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib. A statement from LESCO CEO Engineer Shahid Haidar has shown that the undertaking has been one major step towards the reduction of the theft of electricity.

Safety has been further improved by adding the insulated conductors in green areas like GOR, Cantt, Johar Town, and Gulberg. The company has also established a Health, Safety, and Environment Directorate to further avoid accidents.
A 535,000 smart meter project has been launched by the company, which is part of the business plan for the next five years. At present, apart from other undertakings, a total of 55,000 of these smart meters have already been put in place. This action has allowed the company to be at the forefront of the process of reducing the number of losses and getting a sum of Rs. 4.23 billion from detection bills and Rs. 35.12 billion from private debtors.
In order to ensure the uninterrupted continuation of the service, the Kasur and Sheikhupura workshops are now recovering transformers, thereby saving Rs. 100 million a year.
Further, it was told that the company has been able to facilitate the supply with the help of seven 132kV new grid stations. Besides, the firm has upgraded 16 transformers, and its employees carried out line reconductoring over 116 km. In addition, the company has taken the initiative to install 4,000 transformers that will make the supply system more efficient. The company is hoping to have finished more projects by the start of the year 2025.
Still, the division was quick in naming the 1,400 officers who were not immune to action in cases involving the laziness of corruption, including the 97 VIPs who were quickly fired.
