April 19, 2025 – Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a new launch of the Punjab Ration Card Program. The program’s start is scheduled for May 1, 2025, and it aims to help more than 1.25 million low-income families. It show down the support to industrial labourers and daily wage earners in the whole province.

Maryam Nawaz to Start Punjab Ration Card Program for Poor Families

The plan is, each qualifying family will be paid Rs. 10,000 as a subsidy for the significant food price increase, for four months. The card will be issued by the Bank of Punjab, which will be the name of the head of the family, and thus support 8.4 million people.​

Punjab has budgeted Rs. 40 billion for the food distribution scheme. The Labour and Social Security Departments are each giving 10 billion, while the provincial government, by a share of 20 billion, is funding the remaining amount.​

During a ceremony in Lahore, the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz declared the government’s ability to stand up for the ones whose food expenses are not being easily fulfil.She added, “This initiative is for those who are unable to afford their kitchen essentials.”​

On top of the ration card project, she also put the focus on the government’s welfare plans, saying that 30,000 low-cost houses are currently in the process of being constructed in different spots in Punjab. She added that this figure did not compare to any past administration’s work record and that they are planning to end the year with the goal of a total of 100,000 homes.

The Punjab Ration Card Program serves as a major initiative to avail a safety net for the province’s hard working citizens, thus helping them be more financially stable and to have better access to basic commodities.
