Moscow (30 July 2025): A powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake has caused destruction in Russia, after which tsunami warnings have been issued in the United States, China, Japan, and several other countries.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake struck near the eastern coast of Russia in the Kamchatka region, causing serious concern and leading to a tsunami alert.
The earthquake created chaos. Many houses were destroyed, and buildings shook violently. Waves as high as 3 to 4 meters crashed into Russia’s eastern coastline, flooding several areas. The Governor of Kamchatka said this was the strongest earthquake in decades, and authorities are now assessing the damage.
After the quake in Kamchatka, tsunami warnings have also been issued for America, China, Japan, the Philippines, Ecuador, and other nations. In Japan, sirens were activated after tsunami waves hit different regions, including the Hokkaido island. In the capital Tokyo, a high alert was declared.
Japan’s nuclear plant has been evacuated. The Japanese Prime Minister said they are monitoring the situation closely and advised people to follow official safety instructions. In Hawaii (USA), residents were told to leave coastal areas immediately. The island of Oahu has been evacuated. Hawaii’s governor warned that the situation is serious and urged everyone to take it seriously and move to higher ground, as waves up to 10 feet are expected.
U.S. President Donald Trump has also issued a tsunami warning for Hawaii. In eastern China, alerts have been sent out as well. The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center has warned Ecuador that 10-foot-high waves could crash into its shores soon.
