Lahore, April 3, 2025—The Punjab School Education Department, to respond to the increases in the summer heat, has introduced new school timings for all public and private institutions. Starting from April 7 and ending on October 15, 2025, the new timetable overcomes the heat of the months and is expected to comfort the students and staff during the hot period.​

Revised School Timings For Summer:

• The single shift schools start at 7:30 AM and go till 1:00 PM from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, they finish earlier at 11:30 AM.
• For double shift schools, the morning shift runs from 7:30 AM until noon on Monday to Thursday. Friday is the same as the single shift timing at 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
• The evening shift operates from noon till 4:30 PM on Monday to Thursday, with Fridays beginning at 2:30 PM.

As a result of this change, school hours have been reduced by 30 minutes compared to the previous schedule, with single-shift schools previously operating from 1:30 PM until the summer months. The decision has been made to conform to the Government’s actions to lessen the suffering of the students and the staff due to the present heatwave. ​

All officers have been asked by the Department of School Education to make sure that the new times have been implemented surely. Failure to fulfill could lead to taking such institutions to the court. ​

By implementing this measure, we can see the strong will of the Punjab government to give priority to the health and welfare of their students and teachers, especially when they are facing climatic challenges.

The government of Punjab has recommended that school management should take care of proper ventilation, hydration facilities, and shaded areas so that the students are safe from the intense heat. Parents are also encouraged to send their children with water bottles and light cotton clothing. In case the heatwave is very severe in the consecutive months, the government can adjust the timings.
