The University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) launched Uni-Gold as Pakistan’s inaugural high-yield chicken breed that arose from domestic development in Faisalabad on April 28, 2025. The climate-resilient hen will revolutionize rural poultry farming because it improves national food security.
Pakistan Launches First Native High-Yield Chicken Breed: Uni-Gold
Uni-Gold breeds release over 200 eggs annually, thus outperforming standard local hens by 150% because they typically produce 80 eggs per year. The breed excels through its ability to survive Pakistan’s extreme climate because it demonstrates three valuable characteristics: heat tolerance, disease resistance, and feed-economic efficiency.
The Poultry Research Institute at UAF developed Uni-Gold through extensive research which should help Pakistan reduce its need for imported poultry stock and decrease production expenses. The Breed exhibits strong tolerance to hot temperatures along with exceptional feed efficiency using local feed resources which makes it outperform both traditional breeds and commercially available breeds in rural systems.
Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan as UAF Vice Chancellor proclaimed at the occasion that Uni-Gold functions as a solution rather than a standard poultry breed. The new genetic line allows farmers particularly in rural regions to boost their production levels and increase revenue and become independent from outside sources.
The initial rollout phase of Uni-Gold commenced in the Punjab and Sindh regions, leading to its national expansion during the current year. Strategic reports indicate this breed will provide substantial assistance to operations guided by women and will serve as a vital method to fight protein deficiency throughout underserved areas.
The entrance of Uni-Gold into Pakistan demonstrates a timely agricultural revolution since food prices have increased while sustainable farming demand grows, thus offering the nation locally developed innovation that serves national needs.
Research indicates that the implementation of Uni-Gold will lead to lower poultry import expenses for Pakistan, thus boosting local economic strength. The protection or success of this native livestock might lead researchers to investigate other local animal breeds.
