The Punjab government declared May 1, 2025 (Wednesday) as a public holiday to celebrate International Labour Day, which honors work contributions and employee rights throughout the global community.

A message from the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) declared that all Punjab-based government facilities combined including educational centers along with banks, and the majority of private sector enterprises, will observe a shutdown on this day. As a national tradition,n Pakistan celebrates Labour Day through approved workplace closures to honor the difficulties and accomplishments of the working people.
May Day or Labour Day enjoys recognition in about 80 different nations as it honors the determined efforts of workers to fight for fair compensation, along with better premises and workplace rights. Trade unions and labor organizations, together with civil society groups of Pakistan, organize traditional Labor Day commemoration activities through rallies and awareness seminars, and educational events.
This year marks the scheduled execution of various programs in key Pakistani locations, including Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, along Lahore, that will ascertain workers’ welfare and enforce minimum wage requirements and develop occupational safety protocols.
