Gilgit-Baltistan (August 11, 2025): A tragic accident took place in Gilgit during the restoration work of the flood-affected Danyore Nullah. A massive landslide suddenly fell, killing 8 volunteers on the spot.
According to details, the Danyore Nullah had been damaged by recent floods, and repair work was in progress. During the work, the landslide collapsed without warning, burying eight people under the debris. Rescue teams managed to pull out 4 injured people, while officials fear that more people may still be trapped under the rubble.
Rescue authorities said that there is a chance the death toll could rise.
The destruction from floods in Gilgit-Baltistan continues. Provincial government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq said that the Hunza Shishper Glacier has burst, causing roads, farmland, and property to be washed away. The flood in the Shishper Nullah has become dangerously strong, increasing the water flow to critical levels.
Nearby communities have suffered heavy losses to their land. The Karakoram Highway has also been damaged, forcing the closure of the Hunza road once again. Agricultural land, trees, and crops have been destroyed by the flood.
Due to erosion along the Karakoram Highway, traffic in Hunza has been suspended and is now being diverted through an alternative route via Nagar Road. Work to restore the roads has already started. Several vehicles narrowly escaped being swept away due to riverbank and land erosion. Experts warn that climate change has reached a dangerous level in Gilgit-Baltistan.
