Many young Pakistanis dream of going abroad for education or work in science and technology. Now, there’s exciting news from China that could make this dream easier.
On 15 August 2025, China announced a brand-new visa category for young people from Pakistan and other countries who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
According to Asia News Network, the Chinese government has added a new type of visa called the K Visa. This is meant for talented young people from other countries who have skills in science and technology.
Prime Minister Li Qiang signed the order to make changes in the rules for foreign youth entering and leaving China. The new K Visa will be part of the normal visa system, and the rules will start from 1 October 2025. The visa was created together by the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Public Security, and the National Immigration Administration.
To apply for this visa, a person must be a professional in STEM fields and should have a Bachelor’s degree or higher from a well-known university or research institute. The K Visa will allow them to take part in activities related to education, science, technology, and cultural exchange in China.
Before this, China had 12 types of visas. These included the L Visa for tourism, the D Visa for permanent residence, and the G Visa for transit.
Holders of the K Visa will get more benefits in terms of the number of times they can enter the country, how long they can stay, and the overall validity of the visa. Eligibility will depend on age, education background, and work experience.
More details about the new category will be announced soon.
