Because of the sudden rain, streets, basements, and subway stations were filled with water. Cars were floating in the flooded streets, and trees fell down. Strong water flow also caused several roads to close.
In New Jersey, flash floods created a dangerous situation. An emergency was declared in the state after two people lost their lives by being swept away in floodwaters.
The heavy rain caused chaos in both New York and New Jersey. Authorities issued travel warnings and told people to stay indoors for their safety.
