There is some good news regarding new gas connections. Sources linked to the Petroleum Division have claimed that the federal government is thinking about removing the ban on new gas connections, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel on Wednesday.
According to ARY News, the Petroleum Division has been told to prepare everything and figure out how many new residential and commercial users will need gas connections.
Because gas supply has been reduced to many sectors, some extra gas is now available in the system. Also, gas losses by Sui companies have been mostly controlled. Due to this extra gas in the system, five LNG shipments have been delayed.
Sources say that some local gas fields were shut down, which has created problems for government oil and gas exploration companies. Once the government gives a green signal, a summary will be sent to the Economic Coordination Committee of the cabinet.
It’s important to remember that back in 2019, the federal government banned new gas connections due to a shortage of gas supply.
On June 12, 2025, ARY News reported that the government has now made a plan to start giving out new gas connections. In the upcoming financial year, more than 100,000 connections will be provided.
According to official documents, a total of 115,530 new gas connections will be given next year. The target includes 550 new commercial and 350 new industrial users.
The budget documents say that in Sindh and Balochistan, around 85,740 new connections will be given, while in Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, around 30,530 new connections will be provided.
The documents also show that in the next financial year, 30,530 new connections will be given in Sui Northern’s area, and 85,740 new connections in Sui Southern’s system. For the current financial year, the revised target for new connections was 20,061.
