Big News, Schools and Colleges to Remain Closed for One More Week

Lahore: Due to extremely cold weather, the Punjab government has decided to extend winter holidays for all educational institutions by one more week. Schools and colleges will now reopen on 19 January instead of the earlier date.

According to official details, the decision was taken to protect students from harsh weather conditions and health risks. Punjab’s Education Minister, Rana Sikandar Hayat, confirmed that the extension was approved after reviewing weather conditions and public opinion.

He said that a public survey was conducted before making the decision. In the survey, 87 percent of people supported extending the holidays, while only 13 percent were in favor of reopening schools on 12 January.

A total of 154,178 votes were recorded in favor of reopening on 19 January, whereas 24,829 people voted for reopening on 12 January.

The education minister directed all district CEOs to ensure that this decision is properly implemented in their respective areas.

Earlier, while speaking to ARY News, Rana Sikandar Hayat had also stated that student health is the top priority of the government. He explained that winter vacations were extended due to the increasing cold wave, and an official notification would be issued after a meeting held at 3 PM.

He also denied false news circulating on social media regarding holiday extensions. He clarified that those viral notifications were fake and had no connection with the Education Department.

The minister urged parents and the public to rely only on official government sources for authentic information and avoid misleading rumors.
