Rawalpindi: Director General ISPR, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has strongly responded to recent statements made by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He questioned whether extremist leader Noor Wali Mehsud should be made the Chief Minister of the province or whether people are now expected to pledge loyalty to him.
While addressing the media, DG ISPR said that claiming Afghanistan does not support terrorism is completely against reality. He stated that the entire world now recognizes Afghanistan’s involvement in terrorist activities.
He added that false and misleading statements are being made openly to confuse the public. According to him, the comments made by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister are illogical and lack any clear reasoning.
DG ISPR questioned whether more than 3,800 terrorism incidents had not taken place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that despite these serious realities, statements are being made that do not match the ground situation.
He further said that the Chief Minister’s narrative has now become clearly political in nature, without any solid strategy or evidence behind it.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif asked that if military operations are not the solution, then what is the alternative. He questioned whether the state should surrender to terrorists, make Noor Wali Mehsud the provincial leader, or accept decisions made by extremist figures like Hibatullah.
He also raised concerns about the future of young girls in the province, asking whether they would be removed from schools and colleges and forced into isolation. He stressed that there is no clear plan being presented by those making such statements.
DG ISPR clearly stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will not be handed over to terrorists under any circumstances.
He appreciated the sacrifices made by political parties such as ANP and others who stood firmly against terrorism, even facing bullets, but never surrendered to extremists.
He further questioned why terrorist groups have not targeted certain political elements who openly say they will not fight against terrorists and are willing to join them. He pointed out that parties like ANP, JUI-F, PPP, and PML-N have faced attacks, but some groups have remained untouched.
He concluded by saying that asking Afghanistan to ensure peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is an unrealistic and confusing policy. He added that it makes no sense to seek security guarantees from a place that is accused globally of spreading terrorism.
