FPCCI calls for economic emergency and five-year industrial policy

Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has urged the government to declare an economic emergency in the country and introduce a five-year industrial policy to stabilize the economy.

According to ARY News, the demand was made during a press conference held in Islamabad on January 16, 2026.

Speaking at the event, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh said that restoring investor confidence is the key to putting Pakistan back on the path to economic stability. He stressed that long-term planning is essential for economic growth.

He demanded that the government announce a five-year industrial policy to support industries across the country. He also called for a reduction in electricity and gas prices so that factories and businesses can continue operating.

FPCCI Vice President Zaki Ejaz said that Pakistan’s economy needs urgent action and that the government should immediately declare an economic emergency to prevent further damage.

Business and industrial leaders at the press conference also said that the interest rate should be brought down to a single-digit level, ideally around 9 percent. They warned that many industries are relocating due to rising costs and uncertainty. They emphasized that the government and private sector must work together to revive the economy and protect industries.

Former Punjab Minister for Industries SM Tanveer said that industries that have already shut down cannot be revived. However, he appealed to the Prime Minister to make quick decisions to save industries that are currently struggling and on the verge of collapse.
