Islamabad (January 9, 2026): The federal government has announced an important step to stop passport fraud by introducing new security features in Pakistani passports.
According to Radio Pakistan, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that modern security elements will soon be added to passports to prevent forgery and misuse.
He shared this information during his visit to the Beijing Public Security Passport Bureau, where Director General Sun Yu welcomed him. During the visit, the interior minister toured different departments and received a detailed briefing on China’s passport and immigration system, including the complete process from application to printing and final issuance.
Mohsin Naqvi praised China’s efficient immigration system and said that Pakistan has also developed a fast and comprehensive passport and immigration structure. He added that Pakistan is now working on a modern immigration model similar to the Beijing system.
At the end of 2025, the Directorate of Passports and Immigration released its annual performance report. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the year 2025 was declared a year of major reforms led by the Director General of Passports.
The report stated that the installation of modern printers helped permanently clear long-standing passport backlogs.
According to official data, a total of 5,572,013 passports were issued in 2025, which is the highest number ever recorded in a single year.
Out of these, 3,275,263 were issued under the normal category, 1,839,487 under the urgent category, and 276,789 under the fast-track category.
The Passport Department also said that keeping passport offices open 24 hours made the process easier for citizens.
The report further revealed that during 2025, there was a significant rise in the number of people applying for modern e-passports.
