Lahore, May 9, 2025 – In a big step forward to add strength to the region’s healthcare services, the Punjab government has taken up the recruitment of nurses on a substitute (temporary basis) throughout the province. This comes after a recent immediate hiring of doctors to fill vacancies in staffing in public hospitals.
The Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department (SHC & MED) has officially announced the beginning of this recruitment exercise. The process will be organized by the University of Health Sciences (UHS), which has opened an online portal to help ensure the restructuring of the application.
Candidates must have either a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a Post-RN qualification. It is important to note that nurses working in government institutions are not qualified to apply for these positions. Successful applicants will be on short-term duty at different teaching hospitals across Punjab, and they will be paid honorarium on a daily basis for their services.
This is an initiative on the part of the government in its wider scheme of things to improve healthcare delivery by filling the gaps in staffing in public hospitals. The government wants to achieve this by hiring nurses on a substitute basis so that health facilities are appropriately staffed to serve the needs of the people.
The induction of nurses supplements the earlier dispatch of 453 substitute doctors, including Medical Officers, Women Medical Officers, Senior Registrars, and Consultants, to the teaching hospitals at major population centres such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Bahawalpur. These actions reflect the government’s efforts to build the healthcare system and make it worthwhile for all citizens to access quality medical services.
Interested candidates are encouraged to visit the UHS online portal for more details and to place their applications.
