Two suspects, including an umpire, arrested for involvement in international cricket betting

Islamabad: Authorities have arrested two suspects, including a cricket umpire, for their alleged involvement in international cricket betting. Separate cases have been registered against both of them.

According to details, the FIA carried out the operation and took both men into custody for their role in online betting related to international cricket.

A spokesperson said the suspects have been identified as Mujeeb ur Rehman and Zahid Ali. Both cases were filed at the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad.

Sources revealed that Zahid Ali played cricket until 2021 and also worked as an umpire at the district level. He was allegedly involved in online cricket gambling and maintained contact with several international women cricketers.

Sources also claimed that Zahid Ali had links with players from Zimbabwe, Kenya, Ghana, and other African countries. He reportedly introduced himself as a professional umpire and was also involved in money laundering activities in multiple countries.

The FIA has seized evidence from the phones of both suspects, and further investigation is currently underway.
