US Attacks on Venezuela Important Updates

Caracas (January 3, 2026): Russia has strongly criticized the recent US military attacks on Venezuela. The Russian Foreign Ministry urged both sides to remain calm and reduce tension. It warned that more clashes could make the situation even worse.

Russia said that there is no proper justification for US action against Venezuela and added that ideological conflict has damaged peaceful dialogue. Iran, Cuba, and Colombia also condemned the attacks. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that the US strikes are a clear violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Military Deployment Across the Country

Venezuela’s Defense Minister announced the immediate deployment of military forces across the country. He said Venezuela is facing the most serious aggression in its history and called on the nation to stay united and resist together. He added, “They have attacked us, but they will not defeat us.”

Request for an Emergency UN Security Council Meeting

Venezuela has officially requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council. The Foreign Minister wrote to the UN and said that the nation will remain strong and that US aggression will not succeed.

Statement by the US Deputy Secretary of State

US Deputy Secretary of State Senator Mike Lee said that President Maduro will now have to answer for his actions and face legal proceedings in the United States. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that no further operations inside Venezuela are currently expected.

Questions Over Maduro’s Whereabouts

After the US statement, Venezuela’s government said that President Maduro and his wife cannot currently be located. Vice President Delcy Rodríguez stated that there is no confirmed information about their whereabouts.

Delcy Rodríguez demanded that the United States provide proof if President Maduro and his wife are alive and share all related details.

Trump’s Claim About Arrest

Former US President Donald Trump posted on social media that US forces have arrested President Maduro and his wife and taken them out of the country. He described the US operation in Venezuela as a large-scale action.

After the attacks, Venezuela declared a nationwide emergency. The government said that both civilian areas and military facilities were targeted.

Travel Advisory for US Citizens

The US Embassy advised its citizens not to travel to Venezuela and instructed those currently there to leave immediately. A Level-4 “Do Not Travel” warning has been issued.

Locations Targeted in the Attacks

Colombian President Gustavo Petro released a list of locations targeted in the US strikes:

  • La Carlota Air Base in Caracas was disabled after heavy bombing.
  • Cuartel de la Montaña in Catia was damaged.
  • The Federal Legislative Assembly building in Caracas was hit.
  • Fort Tiuna, the country’s main military complex, was also attacked.
  • An airport in El Hatillo was bombed.
  • F-16 Base No. 3 in Barquisimeto was targeted.
  • A private airstrip near Caracas was shut down.
  • A military helicopter base in Higuerote was also disabled.
