Lahore Qalandars raced to victory under the lights in Lahore by six wickets, just managing to beat Quetta Gladiators after a high-intensity PSL X final.
Kusal Perera and Sikandar Raza batted superbly and without loss to help Karachi beat Rawalpindi and win with just three balls left.
Quetta came on strong thanks to a spectacular half-century by the rising star, Hasan Nawaz. The 21-year-old batter scored 76 off 43 deliveries, helping the innings along with eight boundaries and four sixes after the early problems. Thanks to knocks from Avishka Fernando (29 off 22) and Faheem Ashraf (28 off 8), Quetta finished with a strong 201/9.
It was Mohammad Naeem who blazed in the beginning for Lahore with a smoking 46 scored in 27 balls. Abdullah Shafique helped relieve the pressure with 41 runs out of 28, but it was Kusal Perera who took over the chase after Shafique and Naeem were out.
Sikandar Raza was brought in, joining Perera, and he helped Swabi return the game to Lahore’s lead. Because they struck 22 not out in six balls, there was little to do in the last over. The team achieved victory in the final ball, having toughly with style and precision.
For Shaheen Afridi, it meant much to him personally. Already the youngest captain to lift a PSL trophy, he has led Lahore to three title wins in four seasons, including being champions of PSL X, and now stands equal with Islamabad United as the most successful team of the past decade.
