Islamabad (13 November 2025): Two senior judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah, have resigned from their positions.
According to the details, both judges sent their resignations on Thursday, creating a major shock in the country’s judicial system.
ARY News reported that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has already sent his resignation to President Asif Ali Zardari. In his letter, he wrote that he served the institution with “honor, honesty, and full responsibility.”
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah further wrote that his conscience is clear and he has no regrets about his decisions. He stated that he is resigning as a senior judge of the Supreme Court.
In his resignation, Justice Mansoor called the 27th Constitutional Amendment an attack on the Constitution of Pakistan. He said that this amendment has badly damaged the Supreme Court. According to him, this change has pushed justice away from the common man and made the weak even more helpless against the powerful.
He also said that the 27th Amendment has divided the highest court of the country and destroyed its independence. He stated that such actions have pushed Pakistan’s judicial system decades backwards. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah wrote that he cannot take an oath in a court whose constitutional powers have been taken away.
