Is ATM and banks affected?, The National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), in an important move, helped by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), has shared an advisory to address widespread rumors circulating across social media related to the alleged shutdown of ATMs and disturbance to online banking services in the country.

Banking system operators confirmed that there is no issue and all banking programs work successfully, such as ATMs, banking infrastructure, and digital platforms. Without any interruption, they all work very well.

The National CERT issued an official statement to the public that the rumors and messages that are being spread are baseless and are only meant to spread panic in the nation during these tough days. Various financial institutions and the cybersecurity department in the bank are thoroughly observing their systems and have detected no sign of any reliable cyber threat that could impact the online banking system and ATM functions. The authorities guaranteed the public that Pakistan’s digital financial network remains healthy and protected.

CERT intensely advised citizens to ignore any unconfirmed information circulating through unauthorized channels and try to find the official news from official government sources and their respective bank. The SBP is keeping close relationship with CERT to unceasingly boost the security and flexibility of all financial services.

The counseling also included critical safety guidelines for the public. Citizens are advised to remain attentive while using ATMs and doing online transactions. Citizens are also advised against sharing private financial information, such as PINs and account passwords, with other people. The public is further advised to carefully review ATMs when they use the devices or attachments, and people need to avoid unknown links and clicking on those links received from social media. and to always ensure they log out completely after ending their online banking sessions.
