US President Donald Trump has confirmed reports that he called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “crazy” during a tense phone conversation.
According to reports, Trump acknowledged using the term while discussing the ongoing conflict involving Lebanon. The exchange reportedly took place during a phone call between the two leaders.
During a recent interview, Trump was asked whether he had called Netanyahu crazy and accused him of being ungrateful. In response, Trump said, “Yes, I did say that.”
However, he explained that he was not angry. Instead, he said he was frustrated by the continued fighting involving Lebanon. Trump added that despite the disagreement, he still has a good relationship with Netanyahu.
Earlier, the American news website Axios reported that Trump had spoken harshly to Netanyahu during a phone call. According to the report, Trump told the Israeli leader that the ongoing conflict was damaging Israel’s image and increasing criticism from around the world.
Trump also revealed that at one point during the conversation, he urged Netanyahu to stop the fighting immediately. He said he repeatedly stressed the need to end the conflict as soon as possible.
Since the publication of the report, Israeli officials have not made any public comments regarding the details of the phone conversation.
