LAHORE – In response to escalating temperatures across the province, the Punjab School Education Department has officially announced that summer vacations for all public and private schools will commence on June 1, 2025. This decision aims to safeguard students and staff from the intensifying heatwave conditions.

Secretary of School Education, Khalid Nazir Wattoo, emphasized that the schedule remains flexible and may be adjusted if temperatures continue to rise. “If temperatures increase unusually, holidays could begin a week earlier,” Wattoo stated, highlighting the priority given to health and safety amid extreme weather conditions.

The announcement follows alerts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, forecasting temperatures 5–7°C above normal in southern regions, including parts of Punjab, from April 26 to May 1. Such conditions have raised concerns about heat-related illnesses and disruptions to academic activities.

In light of these developments, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued directives to educational institutions to implement precautionary measures. These include ensuring the availability of clean drinking water, maintaining functional ventilation systems, suspending outdoor activities, and establishing first-aid counters staffed with personnel trained in managing heat-related emergencies.

Parents and students are advised to stay informed through official channels for any updates regarding the vacation schedule. The government continues to monitor the situation closely and urges all stakeholders to prioritize health and safety during this period of extreme heat.
