The Lahore High Court has rejected the bail requests of PTI founder Imran Khan in eight different cases related to the events of May 9. The decision was announced by a two-member bench led by Justice Shehbaz Rizvi. The court had earlier reserved its judgment on these bail applications, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel On Tuesday.
It’s important to note that these cases include charges related to the burning and attacks on Jinnah House and Askari Tower.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) extended the interim bail of PTI leaders until July 22, stopping the police from arresting them until then. The cases are related to the November 26 protest.
In the Islamabad ATC, a total of 229 pre-arrest bail requests by PTI leaders were heard. Since Judge Abu Al-Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain was not available, Duty Judge Tahir Abbas Supra took up the case.
The court extended the bail of the PTI leaders and stopped the police from arresting them until July 22. It also directed the lawyers of both sides to present their arguments in the next hearing. All pre-arrest bail applications will now be heard again on July 22.
PTI leaders like Bushra Bibi, Omar Ayub, Shehryar Afridi, and Eman Wasim submitted requests for exemption from appearing in court. However, other leaders including Seemabia Tahir, Zartaj Gul, Mashal Yousafzai, Salman Akram Raja, Raja Basharat, Umair Niazi, Sher Ali Arbab, Shahram Tarakai, Ali Bukhari, Rauf Hassan, Naeem Panjotha, Aliya Hamza, Dawar Khan, and Fazal Muhammad Khan were present in court.
These cases have been registered in several police stations including Karachi Company, Ramna, Secretariat, Tarnol, and others.
Additionally, the court rejected the pre-arrest bail request of PTI MNA Abdul Latif Chitrali. The court noted that Chitrali has already been sentenced in a May 9 case but has not surrendered to the law. Therefore, a person hiding from the law cannot be granted relief.
Chitrali’s lawyer tried to withdraw the application, but the court refused, saying it’s too late to take it back.
The next hearing will be held on July 22, and both sides will present their final arguments then.
