Heavy Rains Hit Pakistan, Fourth Monsoon Spell Brings Flood Alerts

Monsoon’s fourth spell has started in Pakistan, bringing heavy rains to many areas. Several low-lying places are flooded, and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned about landslides and floods in the northern regions, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel on Wednesday.

Karachi:

Dark clouds have covered Karachi, making the weather pleasant. The Met Office has forecast another spell of monsoon rains starting from 28 July in the city. For today, there are chances of drizzle or light rain, especially in the morning and night. The weather will stay humid and partly cloudy during the day.

According to the Met Office, Karachi’s current temperature is 30°C, and it may rise up to 35°C later in the day. Winds are blowing from the southwest at 20 km/h, and humidity in the air is more than 70%.

Lahore:

Early morning heavy rain turned life upside down in Lahore. Water collected in low-lying areas, causing big problems for people. Roads like Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Garhi Shahu, Civil Secretariat, Choburji, Mozang, and Canal Road were flooded. On Kacha Jail Road, the water looked like a small lake. Traffic jams and long lines of vehicles made the situation worse, and many cars broke down in water.

Street vendors and shopkeepers were also affected as water entered markets and footpaths. People demanded quick drainage from the authorities.

Administration on High Alert in Lahore:

Due to this fourth spell of monsoon rains, Lahore’s district administration is on high alert. Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza said that WASA and district teams are active across the city to drain water quickly. Machinery is in place, and Assistant Commissioners are monitoring water drainage in their areas. All departments have been told to stay alert and work together.

Rawalpindi and Islamabad:

Heavy rain also hit Rawalpindi and Islamabad. In some areas, rainwater entered homes, and the communication system was badly affected. The Sawan River in Islamabad overflowed due to heavy rain, creating a flood-like situation.

Northern Areas on Red Alert:

NDMA has warned about landslides and floods in northern areas, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. There is a danger of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF), flash floods, and landslides. The Met Office says more rain with thunderstorms is expected in these areas. People living in glacier regions have been asked to stay alert.

Authorities have also advised the public to take safety measures and avoid unnecessary travel to dangerous zones. Emergency teams have been instructed to stay ready for any situation.

Stay Safe:

With monsoon rains and western winds together, more rain and storms are expected in coming days. People in affected areas should be extra careful and follow all safety instructions from local authorities.
