Pakistan and the United States Finalize Tariff Deal

Washington (October 14, 2025): After successful trade talks between Pakistan and the United States, both countries have finalized a tariff deal to boost economic cooperation.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met with U.S. Assistant Treasury Secretary Robert Kaproth, where they discussed progress on new laws related to virtual asset regulation. During the meeting, Pakistan also invited American companies to invest in oil, gas, minerals, agriculture, and IT sectors.

Finance Minister Aurangzeb appreciated the talks with U.S. officials in Washington and said the meetings were very positive for both sides.

Later, the Finance Minister also met with members of the U.S.-Pakistan Business Council. He said that Pakistan’s macroeconomic indicators are improving and that the private sector should play a leading role in strengthening the economy.
He added that the government understands the challenges faced by business owners and plans to improve government-to-government and business-to-business cooperation in key sectors.

The Finance Minister also met with representatives of Citibank, where he said that Pakistan is moving toward modernization in financial services. He mentioned that economic reforms are bringing stability to the country’s financial indicators.

During his meeting with IFC Vice President Ricardo Puliti, both sides appreciated IFC’s investment and partnership in Pakistan. They also agreed to complete the Reko Diq project’s financial closing soon. Ricardo Puliti welcomed the establishment of an IFC regional office in Islamabad.

In addition, Finance Minister Aurangzeb met with Dr. Sulaiman Al-Jasser, the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). He thanked him for financing the M-6 Motorway project. Both leaders also agreed to work together on polio eradication and oil financing, while planning a new Country Engagement Framework for Pakistan.
