Peshawar: The election of newly appointed Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi has been challenged in the Peshawar High Court. The petition asks the court to declare Sohaib Afridi’s election illegal.
According to details, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) has filed a petition against the election of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s new Chief Minister, Sohaib Afridi, in the Peshawar High Court.
The petition was filed by JUI-F parliamentary leader Lutfur Rehman through his lawyer Barrister Yaseen Raza.
The petition argues that former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation has not yet been accepted, which makes the election of a new Chief Minister unlawful.
It further states that the Governor has summoned Ali Amin Gandapur on October 15 to confirm his resignation. Therefore, under Article 130(8) of the Constitution, a new Chief Minister can only be elected after the current Chief Minister’s resignation is officially approved.
The JUI-F has requested the court to declare Sohaib Afridi’s election illegal and to conduct a new election for Chief Minister according to the Constitution and law.
