We Can Push the Afghan Taliban Back Into the Caves Again | Strong Words from Defence Minister Khawaja Asif

Islamabad (29 October 2025): Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the fighters in the Taliban who want war have wrongly judged our strength and resolve.

Replying firmly to the Taliban on X, the defence minister said any terrorism or violent activity in Pakistan will meet a strong and tough response. Pakistan accepted talks to restore peace at the request of brotherly countries. However, some poisonous statements from certain Afghan officials show that chaos and deceit are slowly present in the Taliban government.

He said, sadly, the Taliban government is pushing Afghanistan back toward destruction. He warned that Pakistan has the capability to push the Taliban back into the caves again, and it would not even need to use its full power. Still, if the Taliban regime wishes, they can remember the defeat at Tora Bora — where they ran away with their tails between their legs.

The defence minister added that seeing those scenes again would surely be an interesting sight for the world. He wrote that it is sad the Taliban regime is trying to drag Afghanistan into another conflict just to keep its rule and to save its war economy.

“Despite knowing their weakness and the empty claims of war, they keep beating the drum of war. If the Taliban regime wants to lead its people to destruction, so be it,” he wrote.

Pakistan warned the Taliban fighters not to work for regional unrest for their own benefit. If they want to test our determination and capability, they will face ruin and loss. The Taliban regime should take account of its fate, because testing Pakistan will prove very costly.

He also wrote that Pakistan never claimed to be an empire, and when it comes to the idea of a “graveyard of empires,” Afghanistan has become a graveyard for its people.

Khawaja Asif said history shows Afghanistan has often been a playground for great powers. The fighters in the Taliban who want war have misjudged Pakistan’s strength and resolve. If the Taliban want to fight, the world will see that their threats are only for show.

The defence minister added that the war-loving elements within the Taliban seek instability in the region for their own interests. Pakistan will not tolerate any terrorism or suicide attacks on its soil.
