Karachi: A tragic incident shocked the city when a 3-year-old boy named Ibrahim fell into an open manhole. For 14 long hours, nobody could find him until a 14-year-old boy named Tanveer did what even the Karachi city authorities failed to do.
Ibrahim’s body was eventually found almost one kilometer away from the accident spot, inside a drainage channel. The one who discovered and pulled him out was Tanveer, a young boy who works at a local grocery shop.
While talking to ARY News, Tanveer explained the whole situation. He said that a large crowd had gathered in the area, and people were saying that a small child had fallen into a manhole and was missing.
Tanveer said the drain had water flowing from three different directions. So he thought the body might have moved towards the side where the flow was strongest. When he looked inside the drain, he saw a small foot. He immediately climbed down into the filthy water and, with great difficulty, brought the child’s body out.
He shared that while he was carrying the child, some policemen stopped him and asked him to hand the body over. Tanveer refused and said he would give the child directly to his parents. Soon after, the parents and media also arrived.
Later, Tanveer and his father were invited to the SSP East office. SSP East Dr. Farrukh honored the young boy for his brave act by giving him a cash reward and a bouquet. The SSP also placed a garland around the neck of the child’s father.
