Charges filed against Bondi Beach attacker Naveed Akram in Sydney

Sydney (17 December 2025): Australian authorities have formally charged Naveed Akram, the attacker involved in the Bondi Beach incident in Sydney.

According to Australian media reports, police said that the injured attacker from the Bondi Beach shooting has been charged with terrorism and more than 50 criminal offences.

Police confirmed that Naveed Akram had gone into a coma after being injured during the attack. Once he regained consciousness, formal charges were filed against him. Investigators believe that more important details may emerge as the investigation continues.

A female eyewitness described the terrifying moment when she saw the attacker. She said he appeared to be stepping out of a car and looked as if he had stumbled and was holding crutches. However, within seconds, he pulled out a large firearm and opened fire. She screamed at people to run, but many did not believe her at first.

Australian police revealed that the attackers, a father and son, kept their mother completely unaware of the plan. Before the attack, they rented a place about 20 kilometers away from their home and told their mother they were going on a fishing trip. They used their own vehicle to reach Bondi Beach, a car that had earlier been seen parked outside their home in June.

Upon reaching Bondi Beach, the attackers chose a footbridge as the location to carry out the assault and then launched the attack.

Police stated that Naveed Akram has been charged with 15 counts of murder, along with dozens of other serious offences. Australian media reported that Naveed Akram has refused to give a statement to police. He had only recently come out of the coma, and authorities say they are waiting for his health to fully stabilize before further proceedings.
