Saudi Arabia Deports Over 10,000 Illegal Immigrants

Jeddah: Saudi authorities have deported more than 10,000 illegal immigrants during a major crackdown on residency, labor, and border violations carried out over one week.

According to foreign media reports, between January 1 and January 7, a total of 18,836 people were arrested across the Kingdom for breaking immigration, labor, and border laws.

The report stated that 11,710 people were detained for violating residency rules, 4,239 were arrested for attempting to cross the border illegally, and 2,887 were held for breaking labor regulations. Out of these, 10,195 illegal residents have already been deported.

Authorities also confirmed that 1,741 people were caught while trying to enter Saudi Arabia illegally.

Among those arrested, 60 percent were Ethiopian nationals, 39 percent were Yemeni, while the remaining 1 percent belonged to other countries. In addition, 46 people were detained for trying to cross the border from Saudi Arabia into neighboring countries.

Officials also said that 19 individuals were arrested for helping others with illegal travel, housing, employment, or shelter inside the Kingdom.
