Karachi: The building of Gul Plaza, which was badly damaged in a fire, will be sealed today. Only investigation experts will be allowed to enter the building after it is sealed.
According to details, the search operation inside the damaged Gul Plaza building in Karachi is almost complete. Even on the tenth day of the incident, debris removal work is still ongoing.
The district administration said that the affected building will be officially sealed today. From now on, entry will only be permitted to technical and investigation teams.
Deputy Commissioner South, Javed Nabi Khoso, while talking to ARY News, said that rescue teams believe there is no chance of more bodies inside the building. After a final search at one remaining spot, the search operation will be completed and the building will be sealed.
He confirmed that so far 73 deaths have been verified in the Gul Plaza tragedy. Out of these, 23 bodies have been identified.
The deputy commissioner said that 17 victims were identified through DNA testing, while the DNA matching process for other bodies is still in progress.
Javed Nabi Khoso added that at the time of the incident, 82 people were reported missing. Families who are still searching for their loved ones can contact the authorities. However, he said that 13 names on the missing persons list are those whose families have not yet provided DNA samples.
He clearly stated that if families do not submit DNA samples, those names will be removed from the missing persons list.
According to the administration, in some cases, families reported the same person under different names.
Officials said that after the completion of the search operation, the future course of action will be decided on legal and technical grounds.
