Lahore (February 9, 2026): After Pakistan took a firm stand on not playing the T20 World Cup match against India on February 15, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has started efforts to convince the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
On Sunday, an important meeting took place between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja. However, the PCB has not yet released an official statement about this meeting. Sources say a formal announcement is expected later today.
According to PCB sources, the board has now placed the matter in the government’s hands. There is a strong possibility that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today. After dinner, a second round of negotiations with the ICC is expected late at night.
Sources further revealed that Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam was also present in the meeting between the PCB and ICC. The PCB reportedly assured Bangladesh of support in terms of revenue and future events. After the meeting, Aminul Islam left for his home country.
Sources said Mohsin Naqvi clearly told Imran Khawaja that any decision regarding a match against India can only be made according to government instructions. He also stressed that Bangladesh must be compensated for the losses caused by being excluded from the event.
He added that Pakistan adopted a principled stance over the unfair treatment of Bangladesh, and on the same basis, the decision was made to boycott the match against India.
