The moon for the holy month of Ramadan has been sighted in Pakistan, and the first fast will be observed on Thursday.
A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee was held under the leadership of Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Members of both the central and zonal moon-sighting committees attended the session, while separate meetings were also conducted in provincial capitals.
The committee first received reports of moon sightings from Dir and Swabi. Later, six more testimonies came from Mohmand district. Members of the zonal committee also confirmed that sightings were reported from Karachi.
After reviewing the evidence, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad officially announced that the moon for Ramadan 1447 Hijri has been sighted, and Muslims across Pakistan will observe their first fast on Thursday.
Earlier, the Meteorological Department had predicted that the Ramadan moon would be easy to see. Officials said the moon would remain visible until 7:03 PM.
According to the department, the moon was born at 5:03 PM the previous day and was around 25 hours old at the time of sighting.
It is important to note that the Ramadan moon had already been sighted in several countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, a day earlier.
