Washington: US President Donald Trump has announced a new 10% global tariff on all countries. The new tariff will take effect from February 24.
According to details, President Trump signed an executive order to impose a 10% tariff on imports from every country. The order states that this tariff will remain in place for 150 days as a temporary measure.
The White House clarified that some items will not be affected by this tariff. These include agricultural products, medicines and medical ingredients, certain electronic goods, metals used for currency production, fuel, and energy products.
This move comes shortly after the Supreme Court declared that tariffs previously imposed by Trump under emergency powers were illegal.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that after the court’s ruling, the government decided to adopt a different approach. He explained that the administration is now returning to a single, equal tariff level for all countries.
He also expressed hope that countries will respect trade agreements and help maintain balance in global trade.
