Former US President Donald Trump has delivered a strong message to allied countries, saying that America will no longer come to help them and they must learn to defend themselves.
In a post on social media, Trump warned countries including the United Kingdom to handle their own energy needs. He suggested that they should either buy fuel from the United States or gather the courage to go to the Strait of Hormuz themselves to secure it.
Trump also claimed that many allies did not stand with the United States during difficult times, which is why America should not always be expected to step in for support.
In a recent interview with a British newspaper, Trump said that the US is currently in contact with Iran. However, he expressed doubt that Tehran is ready to agree to any deal.
He further explained that the United States is in discussions with around seven countries regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. These countries are being asked to play their role in protecting this important global shipping route. Trump added that Israel is also working with the US in this effort.
The former president also warned that if NATO countries do not cooperate on this issue, the future of the alliance could be at serious risk.
