No mini budget, Prime Minister gives clear decision

Islamabad (April 7, 2026): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has clearly rejected all proposals about bringing a mini budget and adding new taxes in the country.

According to senior government sources, several suggestions were presented to the Prime Minister to increase tax revenue due to the recent tensions in the Middle East. However, he strongly refused any plan to introduce new taxes or increase tax rates before the upcoming budget.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed officials not to even consider a mini budget. He said that people are already under pressure because of rising global oil prices, and adding more taxes would create more problems for the public.

He also instructed the economic team to talk with the International Monetary Fund and convince them to review economic targets, keeping in mind the current situation in the Middle East.

Sources also revealed that the Prime Minister rejected a proposal to present the budget in the last week of May. Instead, he ordered detailed discussions and planning before finalizing the budget, especially due to regional uncertainty.

It is expected that because of the ongoing tensions, priorities in the upcoming budget may change. This could affect the government’s three-year targets related to inflation, fiscal deficit, and current account deficit.

Given the current situation, the national budget is now likely to be presented in Parliament during the first or second week of June.
