Today, people in Pakistan and around the world are observing International Workers’ Day to honor the sacrifices of laborers.
In Karachi (May 1, 2026), this day is being marked in memory of the workers of Chicago who gave their lives while fighting for their rights.
According to Save our pak News, the origin of this day goes back to May 1, 1886, when workers in United States protested for better working conditions and fair rights.
Across the country, different political, social, and labor groups are organizing rallies and gatherings. Seminars and public events are also being held to raise awareness about workers’ rights.
During these events, speakers and participants are paying tribute to the workers of Chicago and renewing their promise to protect the rights of laborers.
It is important to remember that on May 1, 1886, workers in Chicago came out on the streets against unfair treatment by factory owners and industrialists.
However, the protest turned violent when police opened fire on the crowd. Many workers were killed or injured, and several were later executed for raising their voices for justice.
