Iran Protests Turn Violent as Death Toll Rises, Claims Time Magazine

Tehran (January 10, 2026): Anti-government protests in Iran have become more violent, with rising clashes reported across many cities. Official sources say at least 62 people have died so far, including 14 security officers. However, Time Magazine’s website claims the real number of deaths has reached 217.

According to foreign media reports, protests that began on December 28 over rising inflation have now turned into large-scale violent demonstrations. Iran’s Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) said that 48 civilians and 14 security personnel were killed in different incidents during these protests.

Iran International reported that senior Iranian ideological leader Hassan Rahim-Pourazghadi made a strong statement, saying Iran should deal with former U.S. President Donald Trump the same way Washington acted against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Reports say violence increased further last night as heavy clashes took place in several cities. Protesters damaged property in many areas. Security forces have arrested nearly 2,500 people so far, while internet services remain shut down in most regions.

Time Magazine claims that protest-related violence has damaged 26 banks, 25 mosques, two hospitals, and 48 fire trucks. Hospitals and mosques were also attacked during the unrest.

Several government buildings and police stations were targeted, leaving many officers injured. Ambulances were also attacked, and buses and private vehicles were set on fire in different cities.

Al Jazeera reported that 62 people have officially died so far, including 48 protesters and 14 security personnel, while thousands of demonstrators remain under arrest.
