Peshawar: DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that Afghanistan is being used as a base of operations for carrying out terrorism inside Pakistan.
During a press conference, a journalist asked the DG ISPR about reports that Pakistan had attacked Kabul and that Noor Wali Mehsud was killed. Responding to the question, the army spokesperson said that several reports were circulating on social media about the Kabul attack, but the fact is that Afghanistan is being used as a base of operations for terrorists targeting Pakistan. He added that Pakistan has clear evidence and solid proof of this.
He said that the Pakistan Army will continue to take every step necessary to protect the lives and property of its people.
General Ahmed Sharif said that Pakistan shares brotherly relations with Afghanistan. He reminded that Pakistan has hosted Afghan refugees for many years, and even today, many Afghans come to Pakistan for medical treatment. However, he added that Pakistan has only one clear message for Afghanistan “Do not let your land be used by terrorists.”
The DG ISPR further said that non-state actors are being given space inside Afghanistan. He mentioned that several terrorist groups like Fitna-e-Hindustan and Fitna-e-Khawarij are still active there. He stressed that it is up to Afghanistan’s leadership to decide whether they want to allow their soil to be used by such groups or not.
He made it clear that Pakistan will do whatever it takes to protect its sovereignty and its citizens. He also mentioned that other international partners, including Saudi Arabia, have tried to make Afghanistan understand the seriousness of the situation.
The spokesperson warned that terrorists do not represent any religion or sect, and giving them shelter will only spread terrorism across the whole region.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry added that protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and its people’s safety is the army’s top priority, and effective actions will continue to be taken for that.
The DG ISPR also questioned why some people are still suggesting peace talks with terrorists. He said, “Who is saying today that we should not take action against terrorists but instead hold talks with them? Five or six years ago, the same people were in power — they used to say we should talk to those who killed our children and cut off people’s heads. Now they are not in government, but they are still saying the same thing.”
