Big Update About E-Challan System in Karachi

People in Karachi are worried about the heavy fines from the new E-Challan system, and now an important update has been announced.

The E-Challan process started in Karachi on October 27. In just one week, thousands of challans have been issued to motorcycle and car drivers for over-speeding, not wearing helmets or seatbelts, breaking traffic signals, and driving vehicles without proper lights or side mirrors. These challans have collected millions of rupees in fines.

Many citizens, especially those with low income, are upset about these heavy fines. Earlier, the Chief Minister of Sindh said that the first challan might be forgiven, which gave people some hope. Now, the Traffic Police have shared their official position on the matter.

According to the Traffic Police, only those citizens who receive their first E-Challan and submit a written apology for breaking the traffic rule will get their fine cancelled.

If the same person gets a second E-Challan, they will get 50% discount if the fine is paid within 14 days. However, if payment is made within 21 days, they must pay the full amount.

Police explained that if a motorcyclist breaks a signal, the fine is Rs. 5,000. But if it is paid within 14 days, they only need to pay Rs. 2,500.

Traffic Police officials also confirmed that all E-Challans paid within 14 days will receive a discount.
