Islamabad: A major development has been announced for people applying for passports in Pakistan. A new advanced monitoring system called “SHUKRA” has been officially launched to track passport applications from submission to final delivery.

According to details, the Federal Interior Minister visited the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, where the new monitoring system for passport applications, printing, and performance was formally inaugurated.

Speaking on the occasion, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that Pakistan’s passport system has now been upgraded to match international standards. With the new system, passport applications and deliveries—both within Pakistan and abroad—can be monitored in real time. Every stage, from applying for a passport to its delivery, will now remain under strict digital supervision.

The interior minister stated that the government’s goal is to provide fast, secure, and globally competitive services to citizens. He added that the modern monitoring system will further improve the overall performance of the passport department.

Mohsin Naqvi also revealed that the security features of Pakistani passports have been upgraded in line with ICAO standards. He said that advanced automated German machines have increased the department’s capacity, and the passport printing process has now become fully automated, removing human interference.

During the visit, the minister inspected the e-monitoring room, call center, forensic lab, and modern production unit. Officials briefed him that a digital integrated dashboard will now monitor daily operations and staff performance. The new system will also automatically detect overcrowding at passport offices.

The briefing further explained that under the Network Management System, backlog cases and machine status will also be monitored continuously.

A 24/7 monitoring room and call center have also been activated at the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports.

On the instructions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Emergency Travel Document system has also been fully digitized. The minister was given a detailed briefing on the Secure Hybrid Intelligence for Knowledge-Based Response Analytics (SHUKRA) system.

Mohsin Naqvi praised the Director General of Immigration and Passports and his team for successfully introducing a modern, technology-based monitoring system.
