Big Update on New Number Plates for Citizens

Karachi (18 July 2025): There is a big update for citizens regarding new number plates. The Sindh government has announced that the policy will be implemented no matter what, as Reported By Save Our Pak News Channel on Friday.

Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed responded to a recent press conference by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief Muneem Zafar and made it clear that the new number plate policy will be enforced in every case.

In her statement, Sadia Javed said that Jamaat-e-Islami is spreading false claims and misleading propaganda. She added that Muneem Zafar should stop looking at things through the lens of bias.

The spokesperson asked whether Muneem Zafar has a problem even with the Safe City security project? She said the new number plate system is an essential part of the Safe City project. Criticism of the plates only shows a lack of knowledge.

She explained that this plan is for the safety of the people and to help control crime in the city.

The spokesperson added that when a building collapses, people criticize the government, and when it is vacated for safety, they protest. If action is taken on illegal portions in District Central, it’s called oppression, but in Lyari, it’s considered fair?

She further said Jamaat-e-Islami is confused in its policies and is an anti-development party. Giving a political twist to sensitive issues is extremely unfortunate. Those with a biased mindset object to every step taken for Karachi.

It should be noted that the Sindh government has made new number plates mandatory, which has created trouble for citizens. The provincial government has linked this new plate system to crime prevention and tax collection.

Karachi has more than 3.5 million registered motorcycles and over 2.3 million registered cars. Issuing new plates for so many vehicles is no less than a challenge.

So far, no clear instructions have come from the Excise Department and the provincial government. Meanwhile, traffic police continue to impose fines on citizens freely, and this has become a routine practice.

For a new motorcycle number plate, citizens will have to pay Rs 1,850, while for cars, the fee is Rs 2,450. People have suggested that if the Excise Department is accepting online applications, then the plates should also be delivered to citizens at home through courier.
