Cheap Petrol Plan Big Relief Expected for Motorcycle and Rickshaw Users

Islamabad: The government is planning a new scheme to provide cheaper petrol to motorcycle and rickshaw users through a targeted subsidy. Officials are currently considering two main options for this plan.

According to details, the federal government has started preparing a subsidy package worth around Rs. 300 billion. The aim is to protect the public from the rising prices of fuel in the international market.

Sources from the Ministry of Finance said that the federal government has asked all four provinces to support this plan financially. The provinces have been advised to allocate around Rs. 154 billion from their own budgets to help reduce the burden of fuel costs on the common people.

Officials say that two major options are under discussion. The first option is to pass the full impact of international oil prices directly to consumers. The second option is to provide cheaper fuel specifically to two- and three-wheel vehicles, such as motorcycles and rickshaws.

Under the proposed plan, motorcycle users may receive a subsidy for up to 20 liters of petrol per month, while rickshaw drivers could get up to 30 liters at a lower price.

It is estimated that this subsidy program will require about Rs. 300 billion over a period of six weeks. A final decision is expected soon in an important meeting that will include the President, the Prime Minister, and all four Chief Ministers.

Meanwhile, sources have also confirmed that the country currently has enough fuel reserves to meet local demand until the first week of May.
